  • Volumes rose as the VIX average daily close increased 4.10% m/m (-30.50% y/y), to 13.94.
  • Equity ADV ticked up 1.57% m/m (+2.90% y/y), to 11.74 billion.
  • The top 20 most-active equities accounted for 11.91% (-311 bps m/m) of volume and 20.27% (+358 bps m/m) of value traded, with off-exchange market share of 53.34% (+113 bps m/m).
  • Nasdaq (+55 bps m/m) gained the most equity market share; NYSE Arca (-38 bps m/m) lost the most.
  • Stocks with sub-dollar share prices generated 9.78% of consolidated volume, down 292 bps m/m (-70 bps y/y).
  • 40.55% (+188 bps m/m) of off-exchange volume traded at the NBBO, compared with 17.60% (+70 bps m/m) done at the midpoint.
  • Block market share increased 9 bps m/m, to 6.42%.
  • Closing prints accounted for 7.29% of equities volume, down 12 bps m/m; 20.03% of closing volume occurred off-exchange, down 155 bps m/m.
  • ETP ADV rose 1.53% m/m (-1.49% y/y), to 2.25 bn, comprising 19.19% of equity ADV (-1 bp m/m).
  • Equity-options ADV climbed 4.63% m/m (+3.45% y/y) to a new record high of 44.4 million contracts.
  • In equity options, NYSE Arca (+46 bps m/m) gained the most market share; Nasdaq PHLX (-97 bps m/m) and BOX (-90 bps m/m) lost the most.
  • Index-options ADV slipped 0.71% m/m (+17.29% y/y), to 4.14 million.
