TRADING TALK
Canadian Trading Monthly

The 205 corporate stocks and four exchange-traded products that are listed in both Canada and the US had an average daily volume, across both countries, of 504 million shares in November, up 0.7% m/m. Of this total, 217mn, or 43%, traded in Canada (-4.9% m/m) and 288mn, or 57%, traded in the US (+5.4% m/m). Market-wide ADV, including both single-listed names and inter-listed names together, sank -19.1% m/m in the US and fell by -6.2% in Canada. The portion of all Canadian volume coming from inter-listed securities ticked up to 28.3% from 27.9%, while the US figure jumped to 4.6% from 3.5%. For historical perspective, we’ve replaced the column charts we’ve been using to illustrate these figures with time-series line charts on pages 4 and 6TK.
